Lecture on Environmental Concerns

In response to global and local environmental issues, West Visayas State University Office of Student Affairs in coordination with Southeast Asian Youth Program and the Master in Public Governance graduate students of WVSU invites student leaders in Iloilo and Negros to listen to a world-renown Filipino environmentali st, ATTY. ANTONIO OPOSA, Jr.'s lecture on ACADEMIC RESPONSIBILITY: AN URGENT CALL TO CURRENT ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS on Friday, January 23, 2009 at the Cultural Center Rehearsal Room at 7:30am to 5:00pm.

The lecture will lead to a workshop of small groups to tackle current issues of Advocacy, Waste Management and Revolutionizin g Transportation, culminating in the students' own Action Plans, Commitment and Monitoring Scheme with the support or assistance of the representative s of the local government in charge of responding to environmental issues.

There will be a registration fee of only one hundred and sixty pesos (Php160) per participant to cover lunch, 2 snacks and miscellaneous expenses.

Atty. Oposa is an environmental lawyer, a brilliant speaker and a hard core environmentali st. i hope you can find time to attend his lecture forum. i have listened to him talk in one of the forums in UPV and he's really very good. i can assure you your php160 is worth it. this is open for everyone, not just for students in WVSU. i opted to post this in your thread because the venue is in west. madamo nga salamat! Lopez-Jaena Hall of the College of Nursing

Rizal Hall houses the Biological Science Department of the College Arts and Sciences the Central Laboratory, Dissection Room, and the University Medical and Dental Clinics
Back portion is going to the University Dormitory, University Research Center, University Extension Center.
Going to the Marsaysay Village Exit Gate is the University Motor pool and Shop



Ang third cluster of pictures (The WVSU Tambayan) is the benches nga located lapit sa coop sang una (formerly the WVSU clinic), lapit CON Canteen? I love that place, kis-a kon mahangin, maglakat ka along that area gakahulog mga dahon... feeling mo daw autumn man sa WVSU. Damo na gali bag-o nga buildings sa west.

Good governance seminar at Grand Hotel

To promote genuine and lasting change in our government by promoting transparency, social accountability and people empowerment, the West Visayas State University College of Arts and Sciences Masters in Public Governance together with National Movement of Young Legislators – Iloilo Chapter will be conducting a seminar on Ethical Leadership: Genuine Change for Good Governance on January 21-22, 2009 at the Iloilo Grand Hotel, Iloilo City.

This will be conducted by experts from the field of Good Governance and hopes to help make our government and our leaders more responsive to the needs of the Filipino people and enable it to deliver basic services to those who need it most in the most efficient and effective way.

Hon. Aura Landar – Layese, the President of NMYL Iloilo said that this seminar is conducted to encourage and advocate to public servants to "stand by their principles" and abide by the ethical standards of good governance.

Resource speakers include: Dr. Alex Brillantes Jr., Dean, of the UP NCPAG, Commissioner Jaime Jacob, of the Presidential Anti-Graft Commission, Mayor Jesse Robredo of Naga City, Mayor Sonia Lorenzo of San Isidro, Nueva Ecija, International Environmentali st Lawyer Atty. Antonio Oposa Jr. and MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando.

The resource speakers hope that their ethical way of governance would be "replicated" by other localities and eventually "multiplied" around the country.

By upholding these values and principles, it hopes to help make our government and our leaders more responsive to the needs of the Filipino people and enable it to deliver basic services to those who need it most in the most efficient and effective way.

The NMYL is an organization composed of vice governors, board members, vice mayors, councilors including Liga ng Mga Barangay (Barangay League) and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) federation presidents nationwide whose age ranges from 35 years and below.

Ethical Leadership seminar held for local leaders

More than 200 participants coming from all over Western Visayas attended the Seminar on Ethical Leadership sponsored by West Visayas State University, College of Arts and Sciences-Graduate School, Master of Public Governance students and the National Movement of Young Legislators (NMYL) Iloilo Chapter. The joint project pursued to promote genuine and lasting change in our government by promoting transparency, social accountability and people empowerment both for public servants and civil society groups.

Renowned personalities were formed as resource speakers related the topics of their expertise in the 2-day scheduled activity slated on January 21-22, 2009 at Iloilo Grand Hotel.

UP National College of Public Administration and Governance Dean Dr. Alex Brillantes stresses good enough governance, better governance and new politics as considerations to attain development. Commissioner Jaime Jacob of the Presidential Task Force on Graft and Corruption discussed the Anti-red tape law and other related statutes while pounding on the increasing number of Presidential appointees’ officials severed from service because of commission of anti-graft law violations.

Naga City Mayor Jessie Robredo shared the LGU best practices towards building commitments while Mayor Sonia Lorenza of Nueva Ecija talked on Participative Government. Environmentali st Atty. Antonio Oposa lectured on Global Legal Action on Climate Change. PDEA Chair Gen. Dionisio Santiago however, for official reason sent his message affirming and embracing ethical leadership to good governance. Congressman Arthur Defensor and Governor Neil Tupas had also graced the affair.

It is the objective of the intercourse to enable the participants to appreciate the value of good governance and be able to set ideas and to help leaders and its organizations become more effective at improving communities. It also aims to advocate to the community leaders, public servants and citizens to use their ideas to the fullest, and that they will not only achieve one-time benefits yet foster a continual cycle of community renewal and improvement as ethical leadership make condition of others as what leaders do own.
