The 2010 Panay News Essay Writing Contest
PANAY News -- in its 29th year of responsible journalism and strengthening its market’s confidence in its mission to provide Visayans here and abroad with accurate, credible, relevant, balanced, up-to-date news and information – will hold an essay writing contest in line with the daily’s anniversary this April.
The writing contest is open to anyone, 15 years and above. Columnists and book authors are disqualified from this contest.
Articles must be at least 500 words in English, and must observe the rules of copyright. Interested participants of this contest should compose their articles on Microsoft Word, and send through attachment to
pnewc2010@gmail.com, not later than April 15, 2010 at 3:00 p.m.
Submitted articles will be judged according to Voice (which includes slant and how the writer presents his/her angle), 30%; Grammar, 30%; and Style/Composition (construction and flow of ideas), 40%.
Participants should choose among these topics: 1.) Panay News: 29 Years of Upholding Press Freedom, 2.) The eagle’s constant pursuit of truth, and 3.) Panay News: Adhering to decency and moderation.
Participants are free to choose their own titles, however, s/he has to write on the upper left corner of the paper (On Word) the number of his/her desired topic, with her full name, age, address, and telephone number (cell phone numbers are not accepted).
In joining this contest, the contestant should warrant that the work is his/her own, and has not been published. The party should also allow the sponsoring group, Panay News the right, without payment, other than the prize awarded, to publish the participant’s entry, and edit the work to go with the publication’s standard.
Winning entries will be selected by Panay News appointed judges, and the latters’ decision will be final.
