Letter from Central
July 18, 2007
Dear Centralians and Friends,
Greetings from the CPU campus!
The Office for External Affairs and Public Relations is always glad to deliver to you the bi-monthly Letter from Central, an email newsletter that informs you of what is happening in the campus and important events that are happening with our alumni all over the world.
CENTRALIAN LINK
We previously emailed with regards to the publication of our Centralian Link. The responsibility of printing the Link was transferred to the Office for External Affairs and Public Relations. In this connection, may we remind everyone, especially the officers of our Alumni chapters, that we are now accepting news items, articles and pictures (with captions) for the July-August issue of our Link which will be released in the last week of August. Thank you very much and praying for a fruitful partnership.
SEISA DELIVERS A LECTURE
Mrs. Ann Catedrilla-Seisa, College of Nursing Class of 1977 and Distinguished Centralian Awardee in Nursing and Healthcare Facilities Management, delivered a lecture on “Leadership and Success” last July 12 at the Loreto D. Tupaz Centennial Nursing Building. The Nursing Audio Visual Room was full of nursing students, CPUR officials, faculty and staff, and classmates of Mrs. Seisa.
We were so blest to hear Mrs. Seisa expound on the “10 Things That Guided Me To My
Successful Business, Happy Family, and Meaningful Life.” She listed these things as:
1. Passion.
2. Learn to be a leader.
3. Who you work for and with is as important as what you do.
4. Your behaviors have consequences. Be a person of excellence and integrity.
5. Be willing to fail.
6. Do not try to be a superman or superwoman. He or she just does not exist.
7. Children do change your career (not to mention your entire life).
8. Marriage is a hell of a lot of hard work.
9. Do not expect anyone else to support you financially.
10. Laughter.
Thank you very much Mrs. Seisa for the wonderful insights and the experiences that you shared. CPU is also very grateful for the $10,000.00 that you and your family donated for the construction of the “Impressive Stage” at the eastern part of Loreto D. Tupaz Centennial Nursing Building in honor and memory of Mr. & Mrs. Ponciano Catedrilla.
POLICE REGIONAL OFFICE 6 SIGNS TV CONTRACT WITH CPU ALUMNI CHANNEL 8
Philippine National Police Regional Office 6 signed a TV program contract with Central Philippine University Alumni Channel for the airing of PNP’s public service program TSIP or Talakayan Sa Isyung Pulis on July 16 during the flag raising ceremony held in front of PRO 6 Administration Building of Camp Martin Delgado at Fort San Pedro here in Iloilo City.
Atty. Wilfredo V. Dulay, Police Chief Superintendent and PNP Regional Director signed the contract on behalf of PRO 6 while Director Rinand C. Escuban of CPU External Affairs and Public Relations represented CPU Channel 8 in this event. Alumni Channel program coordinator Marvin Segura and External Affairs secretary Mrs. Novy Lagradilla served as witnesses for the contract signing.
TSIP will have its first live airing on Saturday, July 21, 2007 at the CPU Alumni TV Channel Studio from 11am to 12 noon. CPU will take charge of all technical equipments while PNP PRO 6 will be in charge of the hosts and production costs.
With the partnership of PNP and CPU through this program, CPU Alumni Channel lived up to its mission to provide programs that promote the educational services of CPU, community development, alternative education and Christian witness though effective and efficient utilization of University resources.
MR. PURE ENERGY RENDERS “PURE INSPIRATION”
CPU was proud to be the host of Mr. Pure Energy, Gary Valenciano, in his concert entitled “Pure Inspiration.” It was an energy-packed and mob-packed performance as he gave Ilonggos his usual bouncy presentation. We thank God for bringing Gary V to Iloilo to share the good news of Jesus thru his songs. The event was held at our new Gymnasium last July 13, 2007.
CPU AWARDS SCHOLARSHIPS DONORS AND THEIR SCHOLARS
CPU recognized its scholars and grantees in an awarding and recognition program last Monday, July 9. The ceremony took place at the Alumni Promenade Concert Park. Director for scholarship, Dr. Margen A. Java acknowledged the 75 scholarship donors and the 514 new scholars and grantees for this school year. All in all, we have 1,631 scholars and 688 work students. The ceremony ended with a pledge of commitment and a prayer for all the university scholars.
D ‘HUB OPENS UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT
D’ Hub, formerly University Student Center, opened last July 6, 2007. CPU has turned over the supervision of D’ Hub to the University Church, the Rev. Edwin Lopez, former member and secretary of our Board of Trustees, is its volunteer director.
The Rev. Lopez will be assisted by the three members of the pastoral staff of the University Church, Pastor Roger Quimpo, Pastor Alfred Morales and Pastor Phoebe Angeles. Let us pray for them as they discharged this new responsibility of supervising D ‘Hub and share the good news of Jesus Christ to our students who are coming there.
Pastor Kim de la Cruz, Assistant to the President for Kids Central, will lead the Children’s Ministry at D’ Hub.
D ‘Hub offers a canteen to refresh the students while playing table tennis, badminton, billiard, board games, and watching religious programs in the TV. A dart board will soon be added.

REFLECTION
In closing, let us hear the words of Mrs. Ann Catedrilla-Seisa when she ended her lecture,
“I wish all of you the FAITH and the COURAGE to pinpoint your passion. Remember – the commitment to keep your aspirations and dreams is the key difference between SUCCESS and FAILURE. Desire for EXCELLENCE always! Learn to lead, not just for yourself, but for the people who follow behind you. And as you reach the highest levels, do NOT forget to take others with you to be the leaders of tomorrow. SUCCESS is not measured by what you are leaving to, but what you are leaving behind.”
May God continue to bless us all!
Respectfully,

We have decided to build up our CPUCN77 class fund up to a million pesos towards the CPUCN Nursing Skills Laboratory Project. Our Class President, Ann (Bulak) and Loy Seisa, spearheaded & initiated with a commitment of $5,000.00 donation during our Grand celebration & Ground Breaking Ceremony of the Impressive Stage in honor of Bulak’s parents at the CPUCN LDTupaz Bldg last July 5, 2007. More commitments dropped in the bucket. Special mention to the 'great lover of the year' l who committed $5,000.00 in the name our dear classmate Glenda Rivera. Bulak has the list of the donors, she will be the one to inform you of the other details on this project.

Among the RISE members, the CPU-ANEC (Central Philippine University Affiliated Non-conventional Energy Center) helped establish more than eighty (80) micro-hydro/PV sites in very remote areas. Each of the sites can service 1-3 barangays and these are mostly in the upland areas or islets where connection to the main electric grids is very impractical and uneconomical. This year CPU-ANEC plans to expand 17 new areas.

CPU BSN CLASS ’77 CELEBRATES 30TH YEAR
Turning 30 this year, Central Philippine University BS Nursing Class of 1977 organized a grand reunion on 4-7 July at Sarabia Manor Hotel.
The reunion started officially on 4 July with a welcome reception dubbed as “Barrio Fiesta at Boracay Hall”. Delegates wearing their best Filipiniana attire reveled during an opening salvo, welcome and felicitations, Special Dance and dinner. A documentary “CPUCN77-Through the Years” made the evening nostalgic.
On 5 July, the group went through a tour of the city visiting Port San Pedro, Iloilo Mission Hospital, CPU campus and other memorable sites. They lunched at Tatoy’s to everyone’s enjoyment. In the evening, BSN Class ’77 brought back their happy times in a Retro 70s party. Much to the delight of the celebrators, some came in their mini-skirts, polka dot dresses, and bell-bottomed pants. They refreshed their campus and nursing days through the “Looking through our Class Museum” documentary. The talents showdown by alumni from US, Canada and Philippines rocked the night away.
After taking their breakfast buffet on July 6, the group went to Anhawan Beach for their business meeting, presided by Ann Catedrilla-Seisa, the batch’s president. A whole afternoon of body relaxation was made available through an optional Salon and Spa Services for the reuniting friends. The gala night was the reunion’s pinnacle event. Special guests, Dr. Agustin Pulido, former CPU President and Mrs. Natividad Caipang, former dean of the College of Nursing graced the occasion. CPU President, Dr. Juanito Acanto and College of Nursing Dean, Mrs. Lily Somo, were also there to give inspirational messages.
The reunion continued on July 7 with a Luau beach party in San Joaquin, Iloilo. Loy and Ann Seisa hosted the event. The class’ Boracay Escapade is on 9-12 July.
For their gift to CPU, CPU BSN Class ’77 has committed to sponsor the maintenance and improvement of the CPU Nursing Skills laboratories. Together with the 1977 nursing alumni, CPU also held the groundbreaking ceremonies for the beautiful stage that Ms. Ann Catedrilla Seisa and Mr. Narciso “Loy” Seisa are donating in memory of Ann’s parents. The stage is located inside the Loreto D. Tupas Building quadrangle.
