IATS AND CPU INKED MOA
A Memorandum of Agreement was signed by the Institute for Advanced Theological Studies (IATS) and CPU last June 25, 2007. These two institutions previously entered into a MOA for 5 years. The present MOA is an expanded version of the first.
IATS has agreed that, through its Institute Fellows and Research Fellows, they will help in the theological education offered by CPU College of Theology both in the degree and non-degree programs and in the continuing theological education of pastors in the field.
CPU, on the other hand, offers the following to IATS: 1. An office space at Johnson Hall, 2. The services on a yearly basis of Pastor Francis Neil G. Jalando-on, without financial cost to CPU, as Coordinator, and 3. Considers IATS as part of the Outreach/Extension Program of the College of Theology and the Office for External Affairs and Public Relations.
This agreement between CPU and IATS will strengthen the linkage program of the university in the national and international front.
IATS has four main program components: Ecumenical Education and Training, Publication of Books and Journals, Research, and Practice of Ministry. The partner institutions of IATS are: Convention of Philippine Baptist Churches, Convention Baptist Ministers' Association, Convention Baptist Bible College and Western Visayas Ecumenical Council. The Executive Director of IATS is Rev. Dr. Domingo J. Diel, Jr.

DEDICATION SERVICE OF THE CONTINUOUS AMBIENT AIR QUALITY MONITORING SYSTEM
The state of the art equipment that measures the ambient air quality of the whole Region 6 costing 10 million pesos was dedicated just this afternoon, June 28, 2007. Dr. Samson Guillergan, Chief of the Pollution Control Division of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR-Environmental Management Bureau Region 6) explained the capabilities of the equipment. An emitter is stationed in the Elementary Department and the receiver, together with the system, is at the end of the Engineering Department near the parsonage. There is a 400 meter light path crossing the big field. This light path monitors the ambient air quality since pollutants have unique signatures. The system updates its data every 15 minutes.
DENR chose CPU as the site of this system because our campus aptly represents the rural and urban setting. As part of the MOA between DENR and CPU, the university offered the free use of the land area, sponsors the monthly electrical expenses, and provides security of the system.
Rev. Joniel H. Gico in his message during the dedication said, "The telemetry was developed in order to monitor the continuous ambient air quality. The monitoring system could generate either encouraging or discouraging reports about the quality of air. But the implication of its results could also serve as an important index that would reveal how we have taken care of God's precious gifts and how we have been good stewards of God's creation. "
We would like to congratulate the College of Engineering, College of Agriculture and Engr. Aurora Lim, Assistant to the President for Environmental Concerns, the main proponents of this project. Let us help pray for Engr. Felix Ojario, the designated caretaker of the system.
REFLECTION
In closing, let us ponder upon these words uttered by the late Rev. Dr. Genaro "Totik" Diesto, Jr. ,
Yes, it is a dangerous world out there. But God, has prepared you well to face it. And now God calls you out to serve in it. So like Moses, we ask again, "Who are we Lord, that we should face the Pharaoh, the tyrants, the oppressors of our time? Who are we that we should risk imprisonment, even death, to serve a world so fraught with menace? "You are Centralians, and I have trained you well. I have given you knowledge, tempered with faith. I have called you out to speak to a world that desperately needs another word, a different world: a word of justice to an oppressive world; a word of righteousness to an immoral world; a word of freedom to a world in captivity of sin; a word of hope, of resurrection, of new life, of reconciliation, of deliverance, of redemption, of peace. Speak this word to the Pharaohs of the world. Tell this word to my people. It is the Gospel word." God's call is a call to living dangerously. It is a call to live life in faith, a call to face life with courage. It is a call to live life in the shadow of death, to serve God under the shadow of the cross. His promise is, "I will be with you." Yet, somehow the question lingers in our souls. Deep within us, there is doubt, and so once again, we ask, "Who are we to do these things? Who are we?" And God whispers in our ears, "I will be with you."
May God continue to bless us all!
Respectfully,
RINAND CAIPANG ESCUBAN Director
FRANCIS NEIL GICO JALANDO-ON Assistant Director
