Binhi sang Pagtuo
February 15, 2010
Dear Centralians and Friends,
Greetings from the campus!
As part of the Valentines Day celebration, here is a reflection on relationships.*
Bring your own uniqueness into the relationship. Do not lose your identity. In the first place, it is the distinctivenes
s of the person that you fell in love with.
When two different individuals bring their own personality in a relationship it is bound to clash. Do not avoid it. Embrace your differences. Listen to one another. When you do, there will be a creative tension that will blossom into harmony.
When loving, do not drown out the person with your own style of doing things. Molding the person the way you wanted him/her to be will result to resentment. It will eventually suffocate your loved one, and drive him/her away. Instead, allow the person to grow in his/her own pace and time. Give him/her space. Challenge him/her to be what God wants him/her to be. And love him/her for who he/she is.
Remember that you said “I do” for better and for worst. You cannot choose only one. There will be ups and downs. You hope for better days but bad days will surely come. And sometimes it comes in bundles. Be ready for it. Anticipate it. When it comes, be patient and think first before you say something, because if not, you will regret later that you have said those words.
For men, keep in mind the moodswings of a woman before their menstrual cycle. Oftentimes you cannot understand why a woman is easily angered and impatient. It is her biological makeup. Accept it with understanding and grace.
For women, do not ask men their opinion if you already have your own. If the opinion raised is opposite with each other, a woman will usually sulk and be in a bad mood for a number of days. This is when things get out of hand sometimes because a man cannot understand what in the world have he done to make the woman angry. He just voiced out his opinion that she asked in the first place. A man should watch out for this, and weigh his answer before voicing it out.
Lastly, give God a room in your relationship. If God is outside of it, then your relationship is bound to be selfish, and just centered on the two you. If God is there, your relationship is bound to be a blessing to others. It is because you always think and act on what is pleasing to God and loving to others. Be a channel of God’s bounty and love!
May God bless us all!
Sincerely,
Pastor Francis Neil G. Jalando-on
Assistant Chaplain
* I gave this reflection as a piece of advice to a couple that got married last December 2009.

Alvaro, Coo are on 8th and 10th place
16 February 2010
CPU College of Nursing garnered 96.19 percent passing rate in November 2009 board exam. Out of 473 CPU examinees, 455 passed.
CPU ranked 7th in the overall performance of nursing school with 100 and more examinees.
Joanna Marie S. Alvaro and Steve Oliver Y. Coo garnered the 8th and 10th places, respectively.
JOANNE MARIE hails from pres. Roxas, Capiz. She is the eldest of two siblings of Marilou Sajise, an OFW and Aniceto Alvaro Jr., a seaman.
Her desire to excel, encouragement of classmates and teachers contributed to her top ten attainment. Joanna Marie advised that upcoming nursing examinees must take seriously their studies and review and listen well to the lectures and drills.
She believes that a good school like CPU, good review center and faith and trust in the Almighty Lord are the keys to hurdle the nursing licensure exam.
STEVE OLIVER is the son (3rd of four siblings) of Jane Yap Coo and Chui Coo Jr. of Ledesco Village, Lapaz, Iloilo City.
Steve admits humbly that it was not within his abilities but it was not within his abilities but it was through the grace of God that he was able to achieve 10th place. He thanks God for His faithfulness; He never fails. He appreciates the efforts of the review center and his college in preparing them for test.
Steve stresses the importance of attending seriously the review classes, and focusing on coping with weaker subject areas.

Re: Another forthcoming gift for the Lifestyle Learning Center!
Noel,
Thanks be to God for the blessings he has bestowed! The fruits of your labors and perserverance for those things that glorify our Lord and brings progress and worth to our Alma Mater continue to multiply. This additional gift will be a significant contribution towards the attainment of your dream to bring quality life fitness to our CPU community and beyond. May the generosity that Mrs. John continues to display strike a resonant chord on our collective hearts that we too may be encouraged to give, sometimes sacrificially, to those things that bring value, not for ourselves but those that come behind us, for generations to come.
I will be honored to present Mrs. John's check, on your behalf, to CPU during the Corporation meeting on March 26th, and would encourage the University to prepare an appropriate acknowledgemen
t, in addition to the CPUFOAA's, which may be presented on her 100th birthday.
To God is the glory.
Perla
From Dr Noel Nequin;
Great news! Yesterday, I visited Mrs. Clara John and she indicated that she will give another gift for the CPU Lifestyle Learning Center.
I am picking up a $15,000 check from her this coming Tuesday, Feb. 23rd. That brings her giving total over the last 5-6 years to $75,000!
Pearl: I plan to bring the check to our CPU Chicago Chapter meeting on March 6th at Yoly's. Would you handcarry the check to CPU during your forthcoming trip there? The check is made out to CPUFOAA and designated for the CPULLC. I assured her that her donation will be duly acknowledged and that a tax-deductible receipt will be mailed to her later.

Binhi sang Pagtuo
February 22, 2010
Dear Centralians and Friends,
Greetings from Manila!*
Today is a holiday in commemoration of the People Power Revolution of 1986.
Let me share three things in relation to this:
First, it has taught us that a Filipino Christ must have the power to do. We, the people from the oriental countries have great ability to think. We are thinkers. We like to sit down and contemplate about a lot of things. Most of the world’s religions came from the East.
We must continue to transform these contemplative thoughts of ours into actions. We must not be thinkers only but also doers. Let us help each other develop this ability – the power to do. We must work hand in hand for the prosperity of our beloved country and not just wait in our chairs for a miracle to happen.
Secondly, it has taught us to learn from our history and culture. Our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal in his great wisdom once said, “ang hindi marunong lumingon sa kanyang pinanggalingan ay hindi makarating sa kanyang paroroonan.”
That is very true. A Filipino who doesn’t know why he or she is a Filipino is an embarrassment to the nation. We must remember that we are Filipinos and not Americans nor Europeans nor Australians. Remember the song that says, “ako’y isang pinoy ako’y hindi kano. Huwag kang mahihiya kong ang ilong mo ay pangu.”
We have so much to learn from history. This includes our struggles from foreigners and our aspirations to become a free and independent nation. Let us not be weary to teach our children our own history, our own Filipino values and our own culture. Let us continue the struggle to preserve our culture, our race and our language.
Thirdly, it has taught us to have the courage to fear God. Proverb 9:10 says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”
If we fear God, we will value life, we will respect the sanctity of a person, we will uphold justice and we will work for peace. We can build a community in which everyone bears each other’s burden.
May God bless us all!
Sincerely,
Pastor Francis Neil G. Jalando-on

Greeting Chapter Presidents and Fellow Alumni! This is to update you of our chapter’s global reunion preparations and point out areas where we could use help from our sister organizations.
The NorCal AA is now transitioning from planning to implementation of the CPU Alumni Global Reunion in San Francisco, Ca. We are happy to report that the pieces are finally starting to fall into place.
For starters, reservations at our primary venue at Embassy Suites are rapidly filling up. From an initial block of 80 rooms per night, current bookings show 74 rooms have already been reserved, indicating a surge in registrations. We are now working to add another 30 rooms at Embassy suites for a total of 110 rooms, as well as look at surrounding hotels to augment Embassy Suite accommodations
. We will send the information out to you as soon as we get the backup hotel arrangements confirmed.
The reunion schedule of events are also mostly in place. Here is a draft of the reunion schedule for your reference:

We are still in process of identifying speakers; determining what the Gala Dinner theme will be, and giving emphasis to special numbers that will add to the entertainment value of these programs. To date, we only have seven confirmed registrations. So please remind your alumni to not only book their reservations, but also to register for these dinner events.
Advertisements for the souvenir program will be another focus area. As with the event registrations, we’ve barely made a dent with our souvenir ad solicitations. To date, nine pages have been sold. We have mobilized the entire chapter to help in soliciting ads not only from friends and alumni, but also local business that we alumni patronize.
We are thankful for the support of alumni in getting these plans off the ground. Our very own Manong Johnny Ancheta is helping us with the down payment for our venue and catering reservations. We are also thankful for the advice and suggestions that continually come our way to make this a productive and successful event. Where our sister chapters can help are mainly to publicize this event to your alumni and to help us solicit advertisements for the souvenir program. As we are mostly newbies in event planning, we are a bit intimidated by the magnitude of this undertaking. But with God’s help and your support, we will make the 6th global Reunion a successful undertaking.
Thank you!

Federation Leadership Team,
I am very encouraged by the resolve and commitment of our NorCal team to bring about a quality global reunion in July. They have been hard at work with the planning of this major effort. Now is the time for the rest of us to do our part to bring about the result we all want--to ensure that our alumni, family and friends have, not only a happy experience, but one that is rich in memory-making, now-impacting and legacy-enhancing activities.
As Rafael points out in the following letter, your support in two major areas is needed:
1. Bolster the registration by encouraging your members to send in their forms now. It is difficult to commit to capacity requirements unless the committee has a handle on the attendance.
2. Increase the visibility of the reunion within your circles, both social and business, through the solicitation of ads. Remember, that the chapters that raise in excess of $2,000 in ad revenues will get a 10% rebate.
Finally, I wrote you this past weekend about the pressing need to meet the venue deposit for Gala night. Many of you have written me to give your unqualified support, in this case, financial, to ensure that all commitments are met. Thank you so much for your endorsement. As it happens, Dr. and Mrs. Johnny Ancheta have offered to advance the needed deposit; however, the CPUFOAA now, with your endorsement, has the readiness to step in to assist NorCal in this capacity to meet future needs.
I praise God for allowing me with work with a dedicated, committed group of fellow Centralians and their families, whose devotion to those values we hold dear, and share, gives me much encouragement. I know that working together we can make all good things happen. The 6th global reunion is A VERY GOOD THING, and I believe, you wil want to be a major part of its success.
May God bless us all as we seek to honor Him through our loving and faithful service.
Perla
