Federation Family,

It was brought to my attention last year that there may be some members of our greater family who may be entertaining the possibility of visiting CPU to attend the many activities around Commencement Week (last week of March, 2009).  In this regard, I wrote the University to inquire into the possibility of reserving accommodations for the CPUFOAA within the campus.  I have been informed that the second floor of the Gonzaga Mansion has been reserved for us but we do need to indicate our interest at our earliest convenience.  I do not have rates for the rooms but I believe that as alumni we are entitled to a discount.  There are possibly 5 rooms available, all with private baths, and 2+ people in each unit.

Here are some of the activities that I know of during the latter part of the last week of March:
March 26 -- Investiture of Dr. Ted Robles as CPU President
March 27 -- CPU Corporation Meeting
March 28 -- CPU BOT Meeting
           March 29 -- Commencement
Somewhere during this week is also the meeting of the CPUAAI Board.  I am not sure when the Baccaluareate service will be--perhaps during the morning of Commencement, or the Sunday before.  I will let you know of any updates.

If you have an interest in utilizing the Gonzaga Mansion for your CPU plans, please let me know as soon as you can.  I plan to attend and would greatly welcome your company, participation and support.

Blessings,

Perla

The seminar package/total amount you pay already covers the following:

Subject: Re: NURSES COMPETENT ASSESSMENT EXAM, AUSTRALIA

Thanks for the update, Mauro.  This will much appreciated by our nursing graduates--as you said, another door has opened for them career-wise.  I hope alumni world wide will spread the word of this capability as an encouragement to our graduates and others who may similarly benefit.

More power to you, Mauro, as you continue to keep Central in the forefront.

Regards,

Perla

Subject: NURSES COMPETENT ASSESSMENT EXAM, AUSTRALIA

Hello, beloved Centralian leaders....

Please read the report below, regarding our Centralian nurses, who opted to work in Australia.
Before,  you have to come here to do the bridging program...like what Cecile did, but now they have created a sytem, where the first three sets of exams can be taken in the Philippines. Gamay lang ang gastos... The final one, Clinical Exams will be held here  in Australia. After passing the clinical exam, our nurses will be granted a license, and  they can apply for permanent resident. What is good if they are here too, they are allowed to work , 20 hours per week while they are in student visas. Jenny Anastasi, selected CPU as one of the venues of the first three sets of exams in the Philippines.

Now, our Centralians nurses have options to work in Australia...as ide from going to North America, and Europe. If you have relatives who are interested to take the the Competent exams, they can visit CPU and look for Dr Felnor Importante, Director, CPU Review and Continuing Education Center to know more information.

Thanks and Happy New Year to all...

Mauro

Rinand,

Happy New Year to you too.  It is a delight to welcome 2009 with anticipation of all the good things that can be accomplished.

Thank you for this comprehensive background and update on our partnership with the Central Queensland University--Australia.  This is just the beginning of, I hope, many more worthy alliances amongst institutions of higher learning, whereby all can benefit by the exchange of knowledge and expertise.  Indeed, our brother Mauro, with his big heart and willing spirit, is one of CPU's best advertising campaigns, all by himself.  More power to him, and you and your office, as you persevere in all things good and beneficial for our beloved school.

Please keep us updated with developments such as this, and continue to encourage and motivate us to ever be mindful of our heritage, right and obligation to work for CPU.

Best regards and blessings.

Perla

Dear Ma'am Pearl,

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Yes indeed CPU is now a testing center for Nurses Competent Assessment Examination, Australia.  This is a partnership between CPU and Central Queensland University-Australia (CQU-Australia).  Nong Mauro Somodio played a significant part in making this partnership possible as he was the one responsible who played an initial role as "the encourager."  The Office for External Affairs and Public Relations coordinated with the CQU-Australia authorities, particularly Prof. Jenny Anastasi, Director, Centre for Professional Health Education, College of Health and and Human Services.

CQU-Australia has issued a certification recognizing CPU as an affiliate of the Centre for Professional Health Education for recruitment and preparation of overseas qualified Registered Nurses for the Competence Assessment Service Examination (CASEX).  CQU-Australia issued the certificate last 1 September 2008 yet.

Regarding other developments on our relationship with CQU-Australia you will be interested to know that CPU and CQU-Australia are close to signing a Memorandum of Agreement that will further strengthen collaboration efforts on academic disciplines such as: Engineering, Medicine, Nursing.  Research and Faculty Advancement Programs are also included.  Our president, Dr. Ted Robles and Dr. Fabula, Vice-President for Academic Affairs have already signed the MOA.  Our Office have forwarded it back to CQU-Australia for the signatures of its president.

Last September Prof. Anastasi went to CPU and the Office for External Affairs facilitated her trip to CPU resulting to her meetings with our academic heads including the then Management Committee and the vice-presidents.

We are also strengthening our linkages with other Universities both in the Philippines and abroad as CPU under Dr. Robles aims high in its pursuit of becoming a major player in providing Filipinos, even foreigners, with an excellent academic preparation in response to the demands of an ever-changing world, yet an education that is deeply rooted on time honored values and most of all in the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This is all for now.

God bless.

Respectfully,

RINAND

Federation Family,

Here are the activities at CPU during the last week of March:
       Thursday, March 26                       Robles' Investiture
Friday, March 27                            CPU Corporation Meeting
Saturday, March 28                        CPU BOT Meeting
       Sunday, March 29                          Baccalaureate Service--AM
                                                         Commencement--PM

If you are not aware of it, Dr. Eliza Grino will be awarded a Doctor of Literature degree and will speak during the Commencement exercises.

I take special pride in encouraging those who are able to, and asking you all to pass the word, since our CPUFOAA family shares in the honors that will be given to Dr. Robles and Dr. Grino.  Our new president was VP--US for the FOAA until last year and chaired the 2008 Global Reunion steering committee.  Dr. Grino is one of our valued FOAA advisers and a beloved mentor and adviser of our BC/WA chapter.

The university has reserved the second floor of the Gonzaga mansion for the CPUFOAA attendees.  As alumni we get a discount in the use of CPU facilities.  You may consider this as an alternative for your accommodations in Iloilo--space is limited to the 5 bedrooms (double+ occupancy), however.  Let me know if you plan to be at CPU and will be considering utilizing the Gonzaga mansion space.

Please be in prayer for CPU as it continues its mission and as it prepares for these activities.

Blessings,

Perla

Further, to commemorate this event, the chapter is publishing a Souvenir Program and are soliciting advertisements to help raise funds for their various charitable undertakings, the latest of which was a donation for various CPU needs, which was delivered last month.

The souvenir program rates are as follows:
