Dapat na guid may housing project na nga himuon sa Caticlan...so workers in Boracay...can have their own home na sa Caticlan...

Good day na lang sa tanan...

Places/ Islands with special tourism designations, fragile ecosystems and very limited habitable areas like Boracay should have 365/24/7 strict implementation of pertinent laws on housing, population density, building codes, health and safety, waste disposal, etc... the lgu, aklan prov govt, national gov agencies should get their act together asap... encourage the investment of modern tech for waste treatment and disposal; a safer ferry system; increase penalties for violations of the law; accelerate the development of Katiklan and surrounding aklan mainland to relieve pressure on Boracay... Boracay needs a lot of goods and services that can be done/processed in Malay aand transported to the island. Encourage investment and develop the mainland's economy to serve Boracay..To do otherwise is sheer folly...it would be akin to killing the goose which lays the golden egg...

Jimmy...maayon g gab-i

I will be going to Melbourne, on May 13, to attend the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Ilonggo Association of Victoria Inc, which I was the brain in the formation of the said association when I arrived in Australia in 1986.  I prepared my speech if they will allow me to speak and I will be talking about the progress of Western Visayas, and how the IAV Inc, contribute to the success of tourism in our region.  I will give feedback of the result of the affair...and as of now...they are expecting about 700 people to attend the said gathering.

May dal-on pa ako nga mga posters sang Boracay...para ma-promote ta pa diri sa Australia.

Maayong gab-i...liwat sa tanan...

I dont know kun amo man sa gihapon ang sistema subong, I been working in Boracay last 1993 sa isa ka resort, as a front desk officer, I was employed, without the knowledge of DOLE, no SSS, never paid my taxes, and espcially I dont have any protection from an unfair labor practice, thats why I left Boracay.

Rick - Your situation is sad. You worked for a long time but due to your lack of understanding of tax labor laws, you allowed yourself to be deprived of building your pension nest egg with the SSS. You also evaded taxes tsk tsk tsk...

But your letter offers an insight into the plight of workers, not just in Boracay, but in other parts of the country. Unscrupulous employers continue to exploit, employees do not have knowledge of their rights, lack of oversight and sactions from the BIR, SSS and other govt agencies.

You could do everyone a public service by going to the BIR and SSS, for a start, and informing them of problems with this particular employer. If tax evasion occured, I'm sure the BIR would be very interested. If pension contributions were withheld but not remitted, the SSS would also want to get their money too.

Ball's in your court now...

I agree sa panawagan mo Mauro. We need to be firmed sa aton laye or else maabuso na naman. Boracay needs decency, and some peole are using this situation to threat Boracay's best asset and being the country's premier destination.
